When you’re buying a wig, especially your first wig, there are a lot of things to consider. Synthetic or human hair wig? Mono cap or lace front? Long or short? You may also wonder exactly what you need to go along with your wig. Care and maintenance products are a must, but which ones? And what else do you need to keep your wig looking elegant at all times? We’ve compiled our list of essential wig accessories to help!
- Comb and/or brush. You’ll need a wide tooth comb for wigs with more texture or curls. Always use a comb or brush made for wigs.
- Shampoo and conditioner. There are many options to choose from, especially for conditioners (leave-in versus rinse out). Again, make sure you purchase products made for wigs so that you do not damage the delicate hair fibers or cap. This goes for styling products, too, like hairspray and styling mousse.
- Wig stand. You’ll need a wig stand to store your wig when you’re not wearing it, keep it from getting tangled and for styling. You don’t always need a head form; a collapsible or portable metal stand can save space and work just fine.
- Wig cap liner. This will depend on your wig and natural hair type, but a cap can help keep your own hair out of sight and helps hold the wig in place.
- Tape, adhesive or clips. This will also depend on your wig or hair piece and how it attached to your head. But you want to use toupee and hair piece tape and body adhesive to attach, not more generic adhesive products. This is going on your skin, after all!
- Head wrap. This can come in handy when you are washing your wig, taking a day off from wearing it, or even to go over your wig as a fun way to change up your look.
